With so many people participating in bike riding, it is only natural that bike tours would become a booming business. These bike tours let people vacation and incorporate a sport that they enjoy.

Bike tours can be found around the world and are a great way to see the sites as well as enjoy a relaxing vacation.

Some Bike Tours Locations

It appears that for any region of the country, bike tours can be found. From the East coast to the West, there are plenty of companies that offer fabulous bike tours.

One of the quickest ways to search for bike tours is to go on-line and do a search. There are many to choose from, so it may be a good idea to start with an area in mind. You may also want to consider if you would like to incorporate camping into your bike tours adventure.

Some of the bike tours have camping amentias whiles others stay at hotels. It is another decision that is a personnel choice.

Some bike tours take vacationers through the Florida Keys. This tour lasts seven days and the riders generally go anywhere from 29 mile to 50 in a day. There are some meals included and they do stay at local hotels.

Some of the bike tours also have other sporting packages included. These may include things like whitewater rafting, fishing, rock climbing or many other choices. Again, these are offered in specific locations so each tour needs to be looked at for its individual differences.

The cost of course, is going to vary greatly from one type of adventure to another. Depending on the amenities included and the other sports that are offered, the price will change.

There are also bike tours offered through out other countries around the world. These types of tours can really allow for the biker to experience another country and its people. Many of the tours in other countries also offer meals and the option to stay at hotels.

Another thing to consider is the time of year that you will be going on vacation. Some of these bike tours are only offered during specific months, so it is important to plan your trip accordingly.

Taking a vacation that allows you to enjoy both biking and traveling through a new area is truly great way to have a vacation that is unique and special. By arranging a tour, a person can enjoy getting some exercise with the combined enjoyment of traveling and learning about a new area.

Mountain biking can be either a leisurely ride through beautiful scenery or an adrenaline-pumping race down hills followed by muscle thrashing climbs up slopes and steep terrain. It can take a few days or a whole day. The choice is yours and depends on your preference and skill.

The trail you choose will reflect your preference and it is important you choose the right trail. Consider things like whether you want somewhere that is relatively quiet where you wont be bothered by other riders or users or if you like the company of other cyclists. Terrain is another thing to consider and this is what you should look at when mountain biking in Arkansas.

Ouachita Mountains

The Ouachita Mountains offer the best Arkansas mountain biking with many trails, you are sure to find at least one that suits your tastes and needs. Cedar Lake trail is a perfect trail to take if you bring your camping gear with you and plan on staying for a few days. Access to this trail starts from the Cedar Lake day use parking area or any of the surrounding camping grounds.

These trails are best taken at a slow leisurely pace to give you the opportunity to observe the waterfowl and wading birds that can be found in the area. There are no big hills so even young children can come along without feeling too challenged. There are three climbs to the Oachita Mountaintop and provide enough of an Arkansas mountain biking challenge for an experienced rider. After a long day of riding you can cool off at the swimming beach and there also showers and electricity.

The Charlton trail is also worth investigating when mountain biking in Arkansas it gives you access to a great swimming area as well as some beautiful scenery. There are enough challenging trails for you and at the same time the trails are relaxing enough that they can be done in as little as two hours. You will get beautiful views of the valley and in the spring and summer there are gorgeous displays of wild flowers.

Hot Springs

Hot Springs is another great place to go mountain biking in Arkansas. The Cedar Glades trail is a well maintained biking trail that although not technically difficult offers a pleasant ride to anyone who wants to spend a fun afternoon. This is one trail that offers some fast downhill rides so get ready to grab onto your brakes! There are a few small creek crossings but for the most this is an easy trail to ride. Great for beginners.

Bicycling is a hot sport that not only adults enjoy, but kids are very involved in this sport too. Since bicycling can be a good time for the entire family, why not look into a bicycle tour as a vacation?

There are many companies that offer this service to families and they have locations around the world.

What A Bicycle Tour For The Family Could Look Like

An important first step in finding a bicycle tour for the family is to locate companies that offer these packages. Looking on-line is really one of the quickest and easiest methods to locate companies.

Once you have found companies that offer bicycle tours for families, then it is time to narrow down your focus as to where you would like to go. There are opportunities to visit many places from around the world.

In the United States there are bicycle tour companies that offer a range of different locations. Interested in visiting all of the sites in Washington D.C.? Why not take a bicycle tour. These tours incorporate riding with a guide who will take you around the city on bicycles. These are very popular tours and often sell out so make sure to get your arrangements early. Other cities also boast bicycle tours and these can be found on the internet or by contacting cities chamber of commerce to find local businesses.

Other types of bicycle tours can include camping in the adventure. Camp sites are set up with tents and most of these companies also offer home cooked meals as part of their packages.

Companies offer parents a time away too, as many of the companies will bring the kids back to the hotel or camp site and have activities for them in the afternoon. This allows for the parent to continue biking, or they can return and enjoy the pool or camping site.

These companies have several guides with each group in order to assist with children. These guides are screened and are great with kids. There are many activates offered to the children and again parents are more than welcome to take their kids to site see or come back to the camps with t heir kids.

In addition to biking, many companies offer hiking, rafting, rock climbing and other activities in their schedules. All of these activities make for a very complete and well rounded vacation that will be remembered for a very long time.

A bicycle tour is a way to make a memorable vacation for your entire family.

Bicycle tours are sort of bicycle vacations that entail using bikes to traverse some trails in a different locale. Most of these kinds of bicycle tours range around several days depending on where the bicycle tours are located and the trails that are available in the location. The term bicycle tours also apply to specific events which involve a large group of bikers who tour specific areas. These kinds of tours are like competitions that can last more than ten days. The Tour de France and the Tour de Langkawi fall under this classification of tours.

Let us focus on bicycle tours that involve the biker going out on his own or with a buddy to traverse trails around different locales for the sheer enjoyment of it. These kinds of tours are best done in a group or with someone since going out on your own can be dangerous and foolhardy, especially in foreign countries.

Kinds Of Bicycle Tours

Touring on your bicycle can fall under several types, like lightweight touring. This kind of touring does not necessitate bringing camping gear and other food stuffs because the biker will be stopping at hostels or inns to sleep and eat there. The bikers financial supply or credit card is essential in this type of touring. This is highly popular in Europe and can be done alone. Other types of bicycle tours are full loaded touring and expedition touring. Both types of tours mean carrying a fair amount of gear for the biker’s survival. These bicycle tours can go on for as long as the biker wants to and can be done all over the world.

The last kind of touring is called supported touring. This entails having a back-up vehicle as well as a sort of team to follow the bikers as they traverse the roads. Bicycle tours of this type usually involve a lot of bikers and can also be conducted for several days or to a specific destination. This can be a fun family outing of a trial run for a serious competition.

Gear For Bicycle Tours

In most bicycle tours that last several days, lightweight camping equipment is needed for the biker to survive. Foods can be purchased in the local market but the means to cook the food is necessary equipment. A tent is also a must if you have no intention of sleeping in a hostel or inn.

Seeing Europe through a bicycle tour is a unique experience, guaranteed to be one of the best vacations of your lifetime. It’s easy to take the world in from the seat of a bicycle. You see so much more from a bike than you do through the window of a car.

Taking a bicycle tour through Europe is as easy as deciding which country you want to start from.

Germany

A variety of bicycle tours through Europe start in Germany.

The Lake Constance self guided tour through Bavaria starts in the town of Lindau, which calls itself “the happy end of Germany.” This ride is not recommended for beginners, as the elevation through the Allgaeu Mountains of Bavaria and the highlands of the Allgaeu call for strong climbing legs. The scenery is well worth the effort, with views of the spectacular alps, alpine lakes, and forests. This is a self guided, seven-night tour.

A much better option for beginning cyclists is the bicycle path that goes round Lake Constance. This path is the most popular bicycle riding route in all of Europe. Travel through the medieval villages of Meersburg, Lindau, Stain, and Konstanz. This is a self guided, seven-night tour.

The Innsbruck to Munich bicycle tour through Europe is another challenging bit of roadway, with high mountains and deep canyons providing challenges and thrills. You’ll be amazed by the beauty of the Ziller Valley, with its rustic guest houses and turquoise blue water. This is a self guided, six-night tour.

The Four Countries, Three Lakes tour takes cyclists through Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Austria and Germany and along three picturesque lakes. This seven night tour is also self guided.

The Berlin to Copenhagen tour provides 400 miles of scenic cycling on some of the best maintained bike paths in Europe. You’ll see rustic fishing villages and royal palaces as you travel quiet country roads.

Holland

It’s been said that Holland is such a low country, one can see the horizon from under the belly of a cow. You can try this for yourself when you take the Dutch Lowlands bicycle tour through Europe. Ride you bike along the sluices, bridges, and other waterworks that keep the Netherlands above water, if not above sea level.

For families with children aged between 7 and 11, the cycle and sail holiday takes you on a guided tour of seven nights’ duration. Activities of interest to children are included in this tour. Sail across Ijssel Lake to the port town of Hoorn, then cycle to an open air museum and other sight seeing destinations.

Even if you’ve been to Europe before, you haven’t seen it all unless you have taken a bicycle tour through Europe.

A bicycle vacation tour can truly be one of the most fun and exciting vacations in the world, but it is important that you choose the right bicycle for your trip. There are a few things in particular that need to be taken into consideration when buying a bike, which will be discussed in more detail here.

Getting Started

One of the first things to think about when it comes to buying a bike for your bicycle vacation tour is to determine what your primary riding is going to be. This means figuring out where you are going to be riding your bike on your tours, so basically just figure out where you are going to be touring.

If you are planning to go on a bicycle vacation tour in the Rockies for instance you are obviously going to have to get a more durable, more expensive mountain bike than if you were just going biking in Illinois.

The Details

When choosing a bike for a bicycle vacation tour, remember that one of the main ways that a mountain bike differs from a regular bike is that they have very strong frames. Their frames are much more powerful than regular bikes and this is so that they can stand up to the wear and tear of the rough terrain.

Also keep in mind that downhill and trial bikes are for serious mountain bikers and because they are typically much more expensive, you will really only want to consider purchasing them if you have a lot of mountain biking experience and have the skill that would require a bike like this.

Another important factor to consider when choosing a bike for a bicycle vacation tour is price. Of course bicycles of any type will range significantly in price, but keep in mind that the company you shop at will largely determine how good of a deal you are getting. Buying used is also an option but if you are planning on using the bike often or using it on rough terrain where you are really going to need to be able to depend on a strong and relentless bicycle then buying used is certainly not going to be the best idea.

Enjoy Yourself

Going on a bicycle vacation tour your may be one of the best things that you ever do, and will definitely be one experience that you are never going to forget.

California is associated with many things, a laid-back beach lifestyle, organic living and a creative unique way of living. It makes sense then that there are some amazing mountain biking trails in California. Both Northern and Southern California have mountain biking trails with most mountain biking trails in California centered in Southern California. Los Angeles has an astonishing 116 mountain biking trails alone. The fact is made more astonishing when you consider how much traffic and city living is associated with Los Angeles.

South Bay Area

The Saratoga Gap trail is in the South Bay Area of California mountain biking areas. The trails here are 70% single track and 30% fire roads with plenty of variety in terms of terrain and technical challenges. The trails add up to about 30 or so miles for you to explore and enjoy. The trails bring you in and out through lush forests and high meadows. A shady and beautiful trail to take if you want a good workout with varied challenges.

The Henry Coe bike trails are another great example of California mountain biking. The trails here are challenging and you will find yourself climbing a lot. Ten or twenty miles here will have you tired out as compared to ten or twenty miles in flatter areas. A great way to tone up your legs and butt. This is an ideal trail to take if you enjoy quiet as there are not many people who frequent this area, you will have a chance to take your time and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

North Sierra Nevada

In the North Sierra Nevada you will find the Downieville Big Boulder trail, this is a thrilling trail for experienced riders. Be warned this is no place to start your California mountain biking experience if you are a novice. The trails consist of 15% fire roads and 25% four wheel drive roads with 60% single-track roads. Be very careful when riding here, as there are places where a wrong move could send you over the edge quite literally.

Get a map or trail guide before you start out on this trail and mark your route out carefully. Preparation is key to staying safe and having fun on this trail. Go with a friend and if possible talk to someone who has been on these trails. There are a lot of short steep climbs on this trail and the downhill rides are quite exposed, with drops of more than 50 feet on the sides into rocky terrain. Keep this mind before embarking on a ride down this trail.

Cycling holidays are one of the best ways to experience a country that has beautiful countryside and scenic views. Cycling holidays allow you to really experience a place, things dont just speed by you as you go through country roads on your bike, you can make as many or as little detours to check out the little things along the way that traveling by car does not always allow. Best of all it is a leisurely and easy way to travel. There are some things that you should prepare before heading off onto your cycling adventure, especially if this is your first time, the first and important being your fitness level. Other things you should consider are the area and length of your travel.

Fitness Level

Cycling holidays as you would expect are immensely physical as compared to traveling by any other type of vehicle. You determine how far and fast you travel. If you have not been on a bike for years or are new to bike riding then you should practice as much as you can before embarking on any cycling holidays. Logging regular miles to build up your endurance is also a good idea. Although you dont have to be going fast during your holiday you will be on your bike for long periods of time and training for this is very important. It will make your holiday more enjoyable if you have a good idea of your limits and how far you can push yourself.

Bicycle Maintenance

Going on cycling holidays does not mean that you need to have extensive knowledge of bicycle maintenance. However you should have some basic knowledge. One of the most important things that you need to know is how to repair a puncture. If you can do this then nothing will really slow down your cycling holidays. There will most likely be a workshop nearby that can help you out if anything more serious needs fixing.

Plan Carefully

Dont be over ambitious and hope to travel a wide area in a short period of time. You might find the days stretching out the next leg of your tour a chore. This is not at all how cycling holidays are supposed to be. Concentrate on a small area that you can easily manage and add to it if you find that you are able to travel further than you expected. Unless you are a regular cyclist who can go miles and miles be very careful about the distance you plan on going.

Cycling tours make for fun vacation holidays for friends, families, and lovers.

When you take a cycling tour, your sense of time slows down and you relax. Even if the countryside scenery is already familiar to you from auto trips, you’ll see an entirely different view from the seat of a bicycle.

On a cycling tour, you meet your need for daily exercise as you get from one place to another. There’s no need to find a gym, schedule a workout, and take time away from your vacation. Daily cycling burns lots of calories, so you can eat and drink just about anything without guilt or weight gain.

Once you decide where to go, the biggest decision you need to make about your cycling tour is whether you will take a self guided or guided tour.

Self Guided Tours

One of the best ways to take a cycling tour is to take a self guided tour. On a self guided tour, you cycle with your own group of friends of family at your own pace. The self guided tour operator provides you with bicycles, a cycling route and schedule and makes all the necessary provisions for your hotel, luggage transportation, and breakfast buffet.

The bicycle provided will be comfortable and safe, and some tour operators now offer GPS systems on the handlebars. Helmets are not provided, so be sure to bring your own helmet with you.

The tour operator will also provide maps and written descriptions of points of interest along your route. The tour operator also provides a service hotline you can call if you have an emergency on the road, but in general you are responsible for getting yourself to the next hotel by nightfall.

Cyclists are expected to fix their own flats and do their own repairs on self guided tours, but the tour operator will step in with a replacement bike in the event of a complete breakdown.

Guided Tours

On a guided tour, you will be grouped with other tourists and a guide will ride along with you. A second guide drives a support van. Every event is planned and taken care of, including hotels, routes, meals, luggage transportation, and sightseeing excursions. You may bring your own snacks to eat along the route. On some tours, the group pools funds to purchase a picnic lunch, which the guide prepares.

Either Way

Tours usually begin the day after you arrive at the start city and end the day after your last leg of your route. Thus a seven-day event includes just five days of a cycling tour.

The Czech Republic may not spring to mind immediately as a place to go on a bike tour, but it certainly a wonderful place to holiday whether on a bicycle or not. Czech bike tours are unique simply because they are a little off the beaten path. You will be experiencing things that other people have not and enjoy all the things that come with a cycling tour.

There are many roads that are conducive to Czech bike tours. If you choose to you can have a journey that takes place mostly on tarred roads with very easy terrain in between. Or you can choose a route that is mostly difficult terrain with short breaks of tarred road. The choice is yours depending on your ability and fitness level.

Easy Trails

One of the easiest trails that you can follow on Czech bike tours is a route that follows the Elbe river. This route is mostly downhill and requires little effort or a high endurance level. This is of the Czech bike tours that would be ideal for a family holiday. Even the little ones will be able to keep up and have fun. Besides stunning views of the river there are many beautiful little towns along the way.

Some of these towns have beautiful historical monuments that you can visit. Do your research and decide which towns you would like to visit and which monuments are truly different and of interest to you. There are also some castles along this route and a detour to visit these places is definitely a must. If only to say you have been to a castle.

Timing Your Holiday

Czech bike tours have to be timed carefully just like any cycling holiday to make sure that you have nice weather. It is no fun cycling when the weather is unbearably hot or suffering from heatstroke midway through your holiday. The summer months of July and August are quite hot and crowded as this is peak tourist season. If you want to take your time when visiting places of interest and dont want the crowds then avoid this time of the year.

The weather is pleasant around the months May, June and September. However if you have to go in July and August choose the mountain trails, as they will be cooler and good cycling weather, especially if your days are going to be long ones. April to October are considered the best months for Czech bike tours, so plan your time and journey around these factors.

Discount travel mountain biking specials are events that many bikers look forward to. This is because a large group of traveling bikers can take advantage of the discount that is given to bikers who are passing through. In most cases of a discount travel mountain biking promo, there is usually a mountain bike event about to happen or is currently happening in the vicinity of the establishment that is advertising discounted rates for mountain bikers and other cyclists who want to join.

Getting Wind Of Discount Travel Mountain Biking

The best way to know about discount travel mountain biking promotions is to follow the mountain biking circuit around your locale. Most major events have coordinators that specifically ask the surrounding hotels, inns and other accommodations to give a discount travel mountain biking motivation to people who are interested in joining the event or just attending the event. Other types of discount travel mountain biking promotional gimmicks may include a large group of bikers or on a first come first serve basis.

The travel discounts given to participants of a particular race can also include discounts on food. Restaurants within the area of the upcoming event can be asked to give discounts for bikers who present an ID for participating in the race or any event. Some establishment offer discounted rates when they see that you have brought a mountain bike with you.

Other Discount Travel Mountain Biking Promotions

Other hostels or inns also give discounts for travelers on their bikes. These kinds of discount travel mountain biking promotions are quite plausible and are popular in Europe where traveling by bike is quite common. Larger discounts may be given to a large group of bikers of to students who are travelling the countryside while on their break.

Some hostels and inns also offer discount travel mountain biking promotions depending on their locations. If the locale of the hostel or inn is frequently visited by mountain biking tours, the probability of it having a promotional activity highlighting mountain biking is very high. The local government might even encourage a discount travel mountain biking promo to help promote their area.

Areas or regions with ample trails suitable for mountain biking, specifically cross country mountain biking or even downhill are prime areas for bicycle tours. To beef up publicity, discount travel mountain biking promos can be provided in the national papers. This will not only promote the establishment giving the discount but also the area.

Downhill mountain biking is a type of mountain biking event that entails racing against an opponent or racing against the time cycling down a steep incline. In most cases, gravity plays a huge role in getting the cyclists down but some downhill mountain biking enthusiasts pedal to gain more speed. Pedaling gives the cyclists more speed to accelerate. This is the thrill and adrenaline rush that many downhill mountain bike riders love.

What You Need For Downhill Mountain Biking

Downhill mountain biking is more dangerous than cross country mountain biking because of the speed involved. This is the reason why responsible downhillers don protective gear in case they take a spill on their way down. Protective gear for downhill mountain biking includes a helmet (full face is recommended and preferred), body armor and gloves. These are the basic gear needed to help protect bikers from potential injury. All are made of lightweight material to accompany the lightweight downhill bikes that are usually used in these events.

A full face helmet is a mountain biking helmet that is highly similar to a motorcycle helmet that covers the person’s entire head. Due to the speed and velocity that downhillers experience along with the rough ground and terrain where they might fall, protecting the head is of utmost importance. Body armor includes, shin guards, arm guards and a body armor to protect the chest and spine. Downhill mountain biking usually have narrow trails that are called technical trails which can have some obstacles on the trail itself or at the sides.

Gloves for downhill mountain biking are similar to other kinds of mountain biking gloves but are usually full fingered with protection or padding in the palm and sometimes even the knuckles. Protecting the hands is important because these are usually the first ones we instinctively put up when we fall. A downhill mountain biking enthusiast also can not ride well if his hands or fingers are painful due to scratches or wounds.

Downhill Bike

The downhill bike is different from the cross country mountain bike in the sense that the front suspension has longer travel than the cross country bike. Downhill mountain biking also requires larger brakes (usually hydraulic) to help control the descent of the cyclist. The lighter bikes have a distinct advantage over heavy more clunky bikes. The material used for these lighter bikes are also special because they have to be durable and at the same time light enough.

For many biking enthusiasts, there is nothing better than hitting the road on their bike. What type of road is determined by just what kind of adventure the biker is looking for and extreme mountain biking is just one alternative.

Extreme mountain biking is one way to enjoy both the challenges and the beautiful scenery that the great outdoors has to offer. Extreme mountain biking is all about riding the rough road and possibly by going off course to take even more risks. Extreme mountain biking also incorporates the skill of the rider on jumping over creeks and small hills and it is all about speed and taking chances.

Places To Participate In Extreme Mountain Biking

Those that enjoy extreme mountain biking are looking for an area that will be difficult and allow for them to test their limits. The region needs to have plenty of course challenges such as mountains, creeks to jump and hills to fly over.

The course needs to present the biker with enough extreme mountain biking scenarios to be able to feel they have met any type of difficult biking situation.

Some areas around the country are just naturally set up for better course selections. Areas like Moab Utah are known to be a biker’s favorite destination and extreme mountain biking trips are very popular in the region.

Of course, extreme mountain biking can be found anywhere there is a wide open space and mountain bikers. Asking at area biking stores can help locate the type of course that would appropriately challenge your own personnel skill as a mountain biker.

Many that participate in this sport enjoy making videos of their experiences. These types of videos can be found on-line and for biking fans, is a source of amusement as well as a way to find out about good courses in their area.

Extreme Mountain Biking The Game

For those that are not quite ready to hit the trails, there is also a video game dedicated to this increasingly popular sport. The gamer can choose the type of bike that they want to ride and then even choose the course. This game can be found for the PC, Xbox 360, Wii and Playstation units.

It also has the unique feature of allowing the player to choose a camera angle so that they can view their biking experience from different shots.

For those not ready to brave the world of extreme mountain biking this can be one to virtually learn about extreme mountain biking.

Freeride mountain biking is a different kind of mountain biking that has no set goals or course and riders can basically do anything they want. Stunts are acceptable in freeride mountain biking as well. Freeride mountain biking includes many manmade obstacle courses and jumps that can be comparable to BMX riding only at a bigger scale and more unpredictable scale.

The Start Of Freeride Mountain Biking

This type of mountain biking started out with aspects of dirt jumping and stunt riding by some downhill mountain bike riders who wanted to do something different. Modification were down to the downhill bikes to enable them to go faster uphill as well as downhill in a fast pace. The mountain bikes used in freeride mountain biking are actually equipped with shorter travel front suspension and lighter bikes compared to downhill bikes. The head tube angles of the freeride bikes are also steeper compared to ordinary bikes and they have wheel bases that are shorter, too. These features give them the capability to maneuver very well over the technical courses or trails.

The concept of freeride mountain biking is similar to BMX riding where stunts and all other forms of cycling are used to express oneself. Riding on a narrow wooden plank is one of the featured courses of this kind of cycling. Some courses include only a small section of the wooden plank while others have entire sections made of planks held aloft. Raised platforms where bikers jump from or even very steep cliffs can be included in freeride mountain biking.

Tricks and other stunts are also featured in freeride mountain biking. These may sometimes seem a bit dangerous especially stunts that concern flying off a raised platform some thirty feet of the ground and landing onto another platform. Not all freeride mountain bikers wear the protective gear that all downhill bikers wear. The helmet is of course a given when riding freeride.

Some freeride mountain biking trails are made specifically for this sport and have been sponsored by many bike parts and accessories manufacturers. Many spectators also like to watch the danger and excitement that goes with freeride mountain biking.

Freeride mountain biking has gained a lot of popularity and has many followers and supporters. The danger ratio is slightly higher than that of downhill mountain biking but the thrill and adrenaline are somewhat similar depending on the individual. Safety is an important point that should be highlighted to freeride bikers.

Cycling through France is the perfect way to spend a holiday. French cycling holidays are fun and romantic.

If you go on your own, you can travel in a small group of friends or family, or just a couple on your own. Cycling is the perfect group activity, as individuals can isolate themselves when need a little time alone by riding a bit slower or faster than the rest of the group, then rejoin the group when they’re ready for companionship again.

Time slows down when you’re on the seat of a bicycle. You get the feeling of satisfaction that comes from knowing you are generating your own energy instead of consuming fossil fuel, and that you are burning calories and fat and building muscle as you cycle. On a French cycling holiday, you can have just about all the fabulous French food and wine you can eat, without gaining weight.

Where To Begin

One of the hardest decisions to make about your French cycling holiday is deciding which city to start from. One of the best cities in which to take a French cycling holiday is Provence. Provence is known for its fabulous weather the sun shines more than 3,000 hours a year — so wear plenty of sunscreen while you travel. Even if you have seen Provence by auto, you haven’t lived until you have seen Provence from the seat of a bike on a French cycling holiday.

You’ll get to work those legs in the hills of Mont Ventous, the Vaucluse, and Cote du Rhone. Get to know the locals in charming villages and prepare to be blown away by the amazing cultural landscape that inspired great artists like Matisse, Chagall, Picasso, Gauguin, and van Gogh.

Nothing is more picturesque than a body of water, and a French cycling holiday in Provence can include the sea and the Rhone River and its thousands of channels.

Hawaii Mountain Biking is some of the greatest in the world. Here you will find a discussion about the top 20 Hawaii Mountain Biking venues and how they are rated by the riders that use them. Five Star ratings are the very best and I would suggest, if your vacation time allows you, to try all the five-star mountain biking trails in Hawaii.

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park — Crater Rim Trail - 3.6 Miles

This volcanic cinder path continues west along the scenic “Uwekahuna Bluff” which incorporates steep cliffs, as high as 480 feet, above the caldera floor. Gazing off into the distance as you are riding, you can see the steaming caldera and Halema’u Crater spitting smoke and fire into the air. Kilauea Caldera is 2.5 miles long and two miles wide and was formed by a series of collapses over hundreds of years. The trail ends at Jaggar Museum which displays facts about the volcano and its geology and history.

Oahu—Manana Trail - 5.6 Miles

The first .35 miles are paved, then a beautiful single track continues up the ridge line, where on a clear day the summits of the Ko’olau Range and the neighboring Wai’anae Range are visible. Steep cliffs with beautiful multi-greens of foliage make it difficult to keep one’s attention on the trail. This is one of the most dangerous mountain bike trails in Hawaii if it is raining, because it can be so slippery.

Oahu—Kaaawa ValleyGuided Tour - 4 Miles

This is a guided tour that includes a bike, helmet, bottle of water, and a barbecue lunch when you are finished. Whether you are a rookie or an expert, you are going to enjoy riding through this tropical valley while listening to your guide recount the stories of the ancient warriors. As you pass through two gates in the valley, you will discover cows grazing in the pastures. Part of this tour also includes a 15 minute hike to see the overlook of Kane’ohe Bay and Hakipu’u Valley.

Kauai — Kokee State Park-Mohihi - Camp 10 Road - 12 Miles

Of all the mountain biking trails in Hawaii, this is probably the one with the most curves, turns, and wild uphills and downhills. When wet, this trail becomes slick as ice and very dangerous. Remember that all hiking trails are off limits to those on bikes.

Oahu — Queens Beach (Private Property)

Permission is required from the owner Bishop Estate before you can go Hawaii mountain biking on this trail. Twenty acres of coastal property with numerous beginning trails are available to the novice. The terrain consists mostly of dried dirt, wet mud, and deep sand roads. This beach becomes very hot in the sun, so make sure to bring plenty of water and sunscreen.

Mountain biking is a fun and enjoyable sport, one that is suited to people of all ages. There is mountain biking available in almost all areas of the world, and that includes Illinois. There are actually some fantastic Illinois mountain biking options available, and a few companies in particular that are really worth checking out.

Kickapoo Mountain Bike Club

This is one of the best Illinois mountain biking companies, and they will make your mountain biking vacation the time of your life. They not only offer information on the different trails and directions on how to get around, but also on the different accommodations that are available for you to stay in if you are planning to stay there for a night or more.

If you need them to they will even make the reservations for you and get everything set up and ready for you.

Dirt World

This is another ideal company to go through for anything and everything to do with Illinois mountain biking. They offer valuable information to help people plan and make the very most of their Illinois mountain biking experience.

Getting Ready

The actual preparation of the trip is incredibly important and besides choosing an Illinois mountain biking company you should also take a bit of time to determine how much money you have available to spend. Even for people who have a lot of money to spare and are not so concerned with their finances this will still be helpful because it will help them to spend the money that they do have wisely and let them really make the most of their trip.

Going on a mountain biking vacation anywhere can be a real thrill but especially in Illinois where the sights and sounds are like nowhere else in the world. One of the best things about going mountain biking in Illinois is that the terrain is easy enough that even younger children can handle it and so if you want you can bring the whole family along.

Other than setting out your budget you will also have a few other things to take care of before heading off on your trip, namely getting together the equipment you are going to need. A mountain bike, elbow and knee pads, a helmet, and reflector are just a few of the many pieces of equipment that you will need for your mountain biking adventure, and once you have done this you should be set and all ready to go.

Mountain biking is rapidly becoming a popular sport for many health conscious people. It gives them a chance to stay in shape, while enjoying the sport of biking and enjoying nature. The International Mountain Biking Association was formed to help people preserve biking trails across the world. In the beginning it was only a small organization with less than one thousand members. Today the trend has caught on to other countries across the world such as Canada, Europe, Australia, and Switzerland. The association represents itself as being a leader in the trail riding sport.

International mountain biking can be combined in with other activities while you are enjoying your international vacation. Many areas offer day trips or half day trips which are ideal to work into your itinerary. You can get up in the morning, enjoy a light breakfast, and then go exploring on the trails until lunch. This is a great way to start your day and it allows you to have some time after lunch to relax and get ready for an exciting evening. International mountain biking can be much different than biking in the United States. Many of the mountain ranges have more graduated slopes which allow you take your time and enjoy the scenery without putting a lot of stress on your body.

Enjoying Asia On A Mountain Bike

Asia offers many different ethnic groups and quaint little mountain villages. Asia is a great place to enjoy international mountain biking because of the contrasts in terrain. You can visit one of the mountain villages and enjoy the local culture while taking a rest from your trip.

There is an international cyclists club in Hong Kong which offers biking tours to China, Vietnam, New Zealand, Mongolia, Tibet, and Malaysia. They lead several tours each month and are well acquainted with the trails and the terrain. They also know the hot spots for scenery and shopping along the way. They understand the diversity among the Asian people and most of their guides speak more than one language. This can be a big help to a foreigner who does not understand, or speak, the language.

International mountain biking can be a fun and rewarding experience. You can choose your trip based on the amount of time you want to spend riding. Tours are available from one day, up to fourteen days. You can also choose the terrain you wish to ride, based on your rider skills and experience. International mountain biking is more relaxed and can be taken at a slower pace. Many places you can visit on a bike would not be possible if you are in a car. This gives you a chance to enjoy the local culture and get some great snapshots which would not otherwise be possible.

Going on a bike tour can be a really fabulous idea. Not only will it be enjoyable but as well you get to travel around to different parts of the world and see all the amazing sights. They are great fun for the entire family and one of the best places to take a bicycle tour is Italy.

Biking in Italy offers the traveler a unique and refreshing change from the daily routine and lets them see sights that they would not be able to experience anywhere else in the world. On an Italy bicycle tour the guests will be taken on a wonderful tour by bike around areas of Italy that simply could not be seen in the same light via any other means of transportation. By biking around you really get to see firsthand the amazing and renowned sights and sounds of the country of Italy.

Getting Prepared

There are a few things that should be done in order to get prepared to go on an Italy bicycle tour. The first is to choose a bike. You will only be able to choose a bike once you have decided where exactly you will be biking, as the rougher the terrain the more intense and high quality bike you are going to have to get.

The next step in getting prepared for an Italy bicycle tour is to decide how long you and your guests are going to stay. This will largely be determined by the amount of money that you have to spend, because of course one is only able to pay for what they can afford. There are some luxurious and very expensively priced hotels and other lodgings, but there will also be more modestly priced options as well.

If you have access to the Internet then this will be a great resource because you will be able to get an actual visual of the accommodations before booking them. This is important, especially for people who are planning to stay for a couple nights or more because of course you want to enjoy your surroundings and have all of the amenities that you need readily available.

An Italy bicycle tour is a great way to bond with family and friends and take in sights that you will never get to experience again. An Italy bicycle tour certainly does not have to be expensive, although many people do not realize this and avoid even considering the option because of this.

There are some truly fantastic locations to go bicycling around the world, but above all else Key West can definitely be considered as one of the very best. With Key West bike tours you can really sit back and relax and enjoy the charm of Key West during a leisurely ride along the quaint streets and secret lanes.

Bike tours are great because they are tours and so you get to experience travel and tourism and the excitement of all but at the same time you are being physically active and staying healthy.

There are some fantastic and interesting Key West characters that you can meet along the way and chat with. There are a few different companies in and around the area that offer Key West bike tours, and the first step here should be to decide on one of these companies.

Lloyds Tropical Bike Tour

This is one of the best options, one that sure offers a lot of variety. They really offer the original Key West bike tours, and they offer tourists a unique and exciting way to explore Key West. There is an opportunity to taste the delicious local fruit such as coconuts, mangos and starfruit, and to see the gorgeous tropical flowers including frangipani, gardenias, and jasmine.

Carnival

The Carnival Cruise Lines Company is another welcome option that you can go through for Key West bike tours. They promise that as a guest on their Key West bike tours you will be captivated as a very knowledgeable local guides you through the grand mansions and small cottages of this unique area, and you will learn about everything from cigar making to treasure salvaging.

Before You Set Out

Deciding on a company is not the only step in preparing to go on a bike tour. You are also going to have to determine how long you are going to be staying for, what type of accommodations you are going to be staying in, and whether you are going to be taking in any other activities. All of this will be important to work out into your budget.

Even if you have a lot of extra money to spend it is still going to be helpful to set out a budget for yourself before leaving so that you will not spend more money than you have to and not only that but also so that you can spend your money as wisely as possible and really make the most of your trip.

Mountain biking is a sport where the cyclist goes over rough terrain riding a bicycle. In the old days, riding a bike used to be on the streets, dodging vehicles and pedestrians alike. Now, for those who wish to experience the great outdoors and the thrill of speed, mountain biking is the answer.

There are several forms of mountain biking and the most common and popular is cross country biking. This entails going around the countryside or trail. This type of biking has a combination of uphill rides, downhill rides and flat terrain. This is most enjoyable for almost all types f riders.

Mountain Biking To Good Health

Although, many believe that this sport is for thrill seekers and outdoor enthusiasts, it can also be your road to good health. Mountain biking provides the biker with a robust exercise regime that includes cardiac exercise and muscles exercise. The effort that one exerts going up and down mountains and rough roads is a good cardiac workout and also trims down excess fats and reserves.

The rider’s lungs also get a good workout because most mountain biking trails are located far from pollution. These bike trails expose the rider to clean, fresh air as well as the beauty of nature. Of course, the effort to bike on the part of the cyclist must be at least two to three times per week to be able to benefit fully from mountain biking. The cycling session should be around and hour or so touring around varying terrain. Too much of downhill or up hill changes the scenario completely.

Another benefit of mountain biking is as an outlet for stress and frustration. Biking, especially in rough terrain can be exhausting in a good way. All the stress you have accumulated in your week’s worth of work can be let out while riding the trail. The thrill of mountain biking can also be exhilarating to supply the rider with adrenaline yet be safe enough because you control your speed and your actions.

Mountain biking is not an expensive sport. It only becomes expensive when you start to upgrade your bike parts for after market parts to improve speed, shifting and lightness. When you are still trying to get the feel of mountain biking, it is best to either borrow a bike from a friend of get an inexpensive one. It is also recommended to get your own helmet and other safety gear before riding.

Mountain biking can be an extremely fun and enjoyable sport, but only if you know what you are doing. You could get seriously injured mountain biking if you are not aware of at least the basics of the sport, so it is then very important to make yourself educated and aware before heading out. There are a few basics to mountain biking for beginners in particular which are of importance.

Mountain Biking for Beginners

When it comes to the teaching mountain biking for beginners one of the most important things to discuss is the choosing of a mountain bike. The bike is obviously the key piece of equipment, and there are a few tips that will be helpful to you here. For one, you want to look for a bike that has a chainset with replaceable rings.

You also want to choose a familiar name such as Trek or Specialized because then you can rely on them and trust the quality that they offer. To choose your bikes size, you simply need to put the seat pin an inch from the top end of its travel and then sit on the bike. If you are not able to reach the floor then the bike is too big for you or it may have an extra long seat pin.

It is very important to make sure you have the right sized bike for your body because otherwise you are going to have difficulty riding it and may end up experiencing problems once you are out biking.

Also when teaching mountain biking for beginners, the accessories need to be discussed. It is very important to select and purchase the proper accessories in order to make sure you will be protected and really ready to get started mountain biking. A helmet of course is one of the first, and this is what will keep your head from getting injured in case you should fall.

Wearing the right clothing is also going to be very important here, and you should choose windproof outerwear that is going to be able to protect you from the elements. You really can never predict the weather so in case of rain or sleet you will want your clothes to keep you warm and yet be comfortable and easy to ride in at the same time.

Learning about mountain biking for beginners is very important, especially if you are planning on going mountain biking on some rougher terrain.

Reviewing Mountain Biking History

Mountain biking’s history began in California in the 1970s when a group of friends began to alter their street bikes by putting fat tires on them. Actually, there are many different stories about the true origin of mountain biking. Most would agree that mountain biking is the sport of riding bicycles off-road, often over very rough terrain.

Buffalo Soldiers

Some claim this group of infantry soldiers, who in the late 1800s customized their bicycles to carry gear over rough country, were the beginning of mountain biking history. They rode on a journey from Missoula, Montana to Yellowstone National Park and back, a total distance of 800 miles, to test the durability of their customized mountain bikes. The testing in mountainous terrain by the military proved very useful in future wars.

Velro Cross Club Parisien

This group of cyclists in the mid 1950s developed a sport that was very similar to mountain biking today. These 20 some riders juiced up their bikes and roared up and down the French Alps.

John Finley Scott

In 1953 John Finley Scott, a pioneer of mountain biking history, built what he called a “Woodsie Bike” using a Schwinn World diamond frame, balloon tires, flat handlebars, derailleur gears, and cantilever brakes.

The Cupertino Riders

Also known as the Morrow Dirt Club located just 75 miles south of Marin County, California, they were modifying their bikes to help them get up and down the steep hills of San Francisco. They were grafting thumb shift operated derailleurs and motorcycle lever-operated drum brakes onto their klunkers. After a few years they just disappeared.

Mountain Bike Characteristics

Most mountain bikes are built with strength, durability, and high performance in mind. Using wide tires, large round frame tubing, and shock absorbers, they transfer into a far heavier bicycle weight to rider ratio.

Categories of Mountain Biking

Through the history of mountain biking four distinct categories have emerged: cross country, downhill, free ride, and trails or street riding. Cross country is the most popular form and involves riding point to point. Downhill is riding mountain bikes downhill. Free riding encompasses everything from downhill racing to jumping, and generally requires more skill and aggressive riding.

The history of mountain biking is still in its virgin years and. still developing. The purists love the sport because it requires a variety of different skills: endurance, bike handling skills, and self reliance. Riders become very proficient at fixing flat tires so as not to be stranded hundreds of miles from home.

Because rides often occur in isolated areas, they always involve more than one rider for safety reasons. Because mountain bikes are so comfortable and flexible, they now make up 80 percent of all bicycles currently sold in the USA.

New Jersey is a great state to go mountain biking. The state is literally full of biking trails which offer the avid biker just about anything they are looking for. The state boasts of close to 300,000 acres of land which is devoted to state parks and uncluttered forests. It also offers 127 miles of coastline which has canals that are great for biking.

In past history, New Jersey was a top trade center and railroads were abundant throughout the state. Today, these old railroad trails make mountain biking in New Jersey one of the most scenic states to visit. One might think they are stepping back in time when they travel down the trails where their ancestors went before them.

Areas Best For Mountain Biking In New Jersey

In New Jersey’s great northwest you will find the Skylands region which features 60,000 acres of parks and wildlife management areas. You will find rugged hills and magnificent forests and valleys to provide you with a scenic ride. Some of the best mountain biking in New Jersey can be found in this area.

The Sussex Branch Rail Trail offers twenty-one miles of forest trails which pass through small towns and farms. The terrain can be rugged at times but it also provides easy riding for those who are not as experienced.

The Gateway region is home to Ellis Island and Liberty State Park, but it also offers some great places for mountain biking in New Jersey. The path of the old canal is popular with the recreational set and offers wildlife along the way. There are old bridges to cross and cobblestone paths which were laid by hand. In the northwest part of the Gateway you will find a complete system of trails which are suitable for biking. Here they offer roads which have gravel surfaces and trails which are made to be ridden single file.

Parvin State Park is a small park which often gets overlooked, but it offers plenty of serene beauty and gentle trails which are suitable for the entire family. This is also a great place for the beginner who doesn’t yet have a lot of mountain biking skills.

Mountain biking in New Jersey can be an adventure, or it can be a romantic getaway. The state has such a wide variety of trails to offer, the hardest decision will be which ones you want to ride. You can take a ride back in history by following some of the old canal and rail trails, or you can just relax and enjoy the beauty in one of their many parks. The choice is entirely yours.

Mountain bikes are made different from normal bikes for obvious reasons. Normal bikes don’t encounter the obstacles found in mountain biking. Mountain biking obstacles are everywhere you look. There may be a ditch which crosses the biking path, downed tree limbs and branches may get in the way, or you might encounter large, loose rocks along the trail.

Because the rider is often far away from civilization, it is important to learn how to overcome mountain biking obstacles. To do this requires a certain amount of survival skill. If you hit a sharp object and have a flat tire, you will have one of two choices. You either have the necessary items with you to fix the flat, or you walk back the way you came. Walking is usually not the biker’s idea of having fun on the trail.

Tips To Help You Handle Those Obstacles

There are videos and articles that will help you understand how to deal with mountain biking obstacles. When riding in wooded terrain, there is the very high probability that you will encounter roots of trees, which are on top of the ground, or even fallen trees that you must navigate over. The key to learning how to react is to first learn how to use your body weight to make the bike do what you want. As an example, if you were approaching a small log that you need to ride over, you would not want to lean your body weight into the front of the bike, as this would surely flip you off. Instead, you would need to learn to shift your weight to the rear of the bike and lift the front end so that it would clear the obstacle.

Another way to deal with obstacles while mountain biking is to approach an object at a speed that will allow you to roll over it. Slowing down, when approaching an object, will often cause the bike to throw you over the handlebars.

Always look out in front of you and know what the terrain is like before you get to it. This will allow you the time to determine how you are going to deal with the situation. Once you see an obstacle, and determine how you are going to get past it, continue to look out in front of you, and not down at the obstacle. Looking down will more likely get you hurt.

If you are going to ride the backwoods trails, there is no doubt that you will encounter mountain biking obstacles on each and every ride. There is usually no way to know what these obstacles are going to be, but you can learn how to handle them with trial and experience. It is important to your safety that you always ride on trails that are within your skill range. You can progress to more difficult trails once you have mastered the basics of dealing with obstacles.

There is an abundance of mountain biking parks in Pennsylvania with trails for all abilities. There are also a variety of parks so whether its just mountain biking in Pennsylvania youre after or a bike ride and a picnic there is something for every cyclist out there. Another plus to mountain biking in Pennsylvania is that there are so many parks that no matter where you are in Pennsylvania there is somewhere you can bike in. It may mean a long car drive to get there but you will still be able to enjoy your hobby without having to venture too far from home.

Biking in York County

York County has an abundance of interesting mountain biking parks and areas that will keep you happy and help burn calories all at the same time. If you love the thrill of going downhill then you have to go to Ski Roundtop, a ski resort that is ideal for mountain biking in Pennsylvania during the off season months. The best part is that this park is completely free to mountain bikers. There are some good single tracks and this is would be ideal for the adrenaline junkies out there looking for a fix.

The Rocky Ridge County Park is an amazing park for mountain biking. There are a variety of terrains from cinder-paved paths to rocky old woods roads. There are quite a few stream crossings and two incredible vistas and enough intersecting trails for a whole days worth of rides. A bonus is that you can also bring a tent and stay at the camping grounds. Call ahead and check on conditions of trails as park rangers sometimes close trails when they are too muddy.

Parks in Philadelphia

The Pennypack Park is ideal for mountain biking in Pennsylvania as it satisfies both riders who want an off road experience and those who just want paved bike paths. For those who want off road there are flat packed dirt roads for those who are just beginning and for the more experienced there are loose gravel up climbs and rocky paths that provide lots of opportunity to go up and down hills. There is also the chance to hop logs and stumps on the horse riding trails. Be sure to check the trails you are on allow bikers.

The Morris Park is another place in Philadelphia that will give you plenty of variety in terms of trail difficulty. There are trails that are easy and other that are pretty steep with rugged terrain. The area used to be a quarry in the 1900s so this should give you an idea of the terrain you will encounter. This is great if you want a place that is not crowded and exclusive to bikers.

It may surprise you to consider mountain biking in Slovenia but it is truly a wonderful experience that you should consider. There is even a mountain biking park in Slovenia to accommodate enthusiasts of this sport. Besides the mountain biking park there are also many other mountain biking trails that vary in difficulty. One of the main attractions of mountain biking in Slovenia is the possibility of cycling routes that wind through wilderness without the danger of coming across cars and other vehicles hazardous to cyclists. This is the perfect holiday for the cyclist who wants to be as close to nature as possible while still being close to civilization.

Everything a Cyclist Needs

The mountain biking park is located in Crna na Koroskem and was established in 1995. The park connects seven valleys underneath the beautiful Savinja Alps and the Karavanke Mountain. The park offers you the best of mountain biking in Slovenia alongside all the necessities such as hotel accommodation, bike rental and repair, and a mini bus to transfer you from one area to another. There is even a sauna when you need to relax those sore muscles after a long day on the trails.

Unique Bike Trails

Mountain biking in Slovenia will offer you an experience like no other, you can cycle underground! Thats right, instead of going over the mountains you can go under them. Some disused mines have been converted into bike trails and with a guide and a lamp you can cycle safely for almost 5 kilometers underground. These bike trails will take you from one valley to another and provide you with an amazing cycling adventure that you would be hard pressed to find anywhere else in the world.

There is also another cycling experience unique to mountain biking in Slovenia that is the Trace of Wilderness trail. This trail offers you more than a thousand kilometers of forest paths and cart tracks to explore. These trails will take you from one valley to another or lead you up to the mountains. You have the option of cycling independently or joining a guided tour that will provide you with daily rations and an experienced guide.

There are also other activities that can be arranged for you if just mountain biking is not enough. You can have the option of organizing a group with friends and family just for you. You can also arrange to go further from the park and see place of interest via a mountain biking tour of Slovenia. The choice is yours.

Mountain biking is an exciting hobby that actually looks tame in comparison to some of the extreme sports that people regularly take part in these days. Mountain biking teckniques are important and differ from the skills you learnt when riding a bike as a kid. This is because the terrain you will be traveling over on a mountain bike is completely different from the sidewalks and paved roads you rode over as a kid. You will encounter obstacles and speeds that need a different set of skills. The basics of mountain biking teckniques will help to keep you safe and avoid accidents.

Focus

The posture you have when on your mountain bike is very important. Knowing how to sit in the saddle and how much weight you should put on your seat are very important. First of all you need to have focus, when mountain biking concentrate on what you are doing. Push all the worries and problems you have away, you cant be worrying about your mortgage or the fight you had with your wife, thoughts like that will have you flying off your bike when you dont see that rock or patch of gravel.

Think ahead, your line of vision should be a meter or two in front of you. Never focus on the rider ahead of you or just the front wheel of your bike. Keeping your vision ahead is one of the mountain biking teckniques that will help you from colliding with anything or anyone. This will prevent you from hesitating when you come across obstacles because you have already seen them from some distance and can deal with them.

Grip

It may seem trivial but making sure that your thumb is not above the handlebar is one of the basic mountain biking teckniques that will also keep you safe. When your thumb is above the handle bar you can loose your grip very easily, this means that any unexpected bump in the road will make you let go of the handlebars and result in a messy spill. Gripping the handlebars too tightly is also not a good idea. This will tire you out, as your upper body will be tensed throughout your ride. At the same time you dont want your grip to be too loose.

Posture

When you are going downhill you want you weight to be towards the back of your bike, not the front. This means sliding back in the saddle rather than leaning forward, no matter how tempting that may be. This gives you more time to deal with obstacles that crop up and inevitably do on downhill rides and any path that slopes down, no matter how gentle. This is one of those mountain biking teckniques that will prevent you from having a bad fall. Think about the difference of falling backwards off your bike and flying forwards.
